Where Can I Contribute?

 1. 1.

“ Innovation and Entrepreneurship” by Peter F. Drucker

Right Questions to an Entrepreneur asks him/herself in a New Venture:

What will the venture need objectively by way of management from here on out?

(This must be continuously asked when the business “grows significantly or changes directions or

character, that is, changes its products, services, markets, or the kind of people it needs.” (Drucker, pp.201

What am I good at?

What, of all these needs of the venture, could I supply, and supply with distinction?

What do I really want to do, and believe in doing?

What am I willing to spend years on, if not the rest of my life?

Is this something the venture really needs?

Is it a major, essential, indispensable contribution?

Where do I belong? (It is imperative to ask yourself this question when signs of success begin to emerge)

Wrong Questions to an Entrepreneur asks him/herself in a New Venture:

What do I like to do?

Where do I fit in?

In whose footsteps would I follow?

When or if I do create a successful business as an entrepreneur-founder in the future, I think I’ll eventually follow the same path that McDonald’s founder, Ray Kroc, did where he “put a top management in place to run he company and appointed himself the company’s “marketing conscience.”” (Drucker, pp.202) Overseeing the quality of service or product of my business would be a great role that I see myself doing down the line. I find it would be the most appropriate position for me to ensure that the business objective is on track and the customers are being satisfied with the service and/or product. Furthermore, I’ll have my top-management team lead the way to a successful business.

James Ramos Com 499 Sept. 19, 2007
