My Evaluation

 1. 1. My Evaluation By Jake (Arthur John) Yarranton
 2. 2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ?

Firstly, we did some textual analysis to see what sort of ingredients make a successful magazine, the key is to have a magazine with a large, bold Masthead, Cover lines, Strap lines also have a large picture with the person who is depicted giving the audience eye contact to engage them.

We also, looked at contents pages from successful magazines, they consisted of pictures, heading and subheadings, Editors letter and picture. From the contents we looked at they had pictures and loads of text explaining where everything was in the magazine music magazines contents tended to be very packed and cluttered.

Double page spreads consisted of loads of text big and bold Mast head, most double page spreads are interviews or information in the magazines we looked at there was plenty of text and information big bright attractive pictures which engage and attract audience due to different effects and colours.

So, for my magazine I have made sure I have included effective pictures to attract attention, I have also added effects on images to make them more interesting, also I have added different things which I have seen in popular magazines to make my magazine stand out.

 3. 3. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My magazine has been represented as a magazine for indie music fans between 16 and 19.

You can tell this by the bands included fashion senses and the types of things that are included. You can instantly tell by the picture on the front cover as it depicts Mark busking with an acoustic Guitar, you can tell as it is an acoustic Guitar which instantly puts the idea of easy listening music across as the theme also the way mark is dressed shows he is just a normal guy, if you here to look at a a Metal magazine most have band members all in black with flash looking guitars the themes are also dark and mysterious. You can also tell it is a magazine is for indie fans due to the other bands included, Also you can tell it is for young people as there are young people on the cover to encourage young people to read my product.

 4. 4. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I have looked at Mojo Magazine, Kerrang, NME and Q as they are all magazines of the same nature but they are for different audiences to my product but they all had influence on my magazine as I took ideas from lots of different aspects of each magazine, I found influences for the front cover from Mojo magazine which is a very successful magazine that has been going for years. Influences from kerrang for my contents with the cluttered jam packed affect, I also found some great examples of double page spread in Q and NME. However I believe my magazine is unique as it is about unsigned bands, however there are also famous bands included but the point of the magazine is to encourage young bands

 5. 5. Who would be the audience for your media product?

Target audience: Encore !!! is a magazine which is aimed at students, boys and girls between ages 16 and 19, it is a music magazine with unsigned bands that are getting popular included. It is a fantastic magazine because it has gig dates, competitions, interviews ratings etc. The magazine includes indie music, so it is targeted at indie fans. The magazine is weekly, it is stylish and crisp also it is eye catching with vibrant colours.

 6. 6. How did you attract/ address your audience?

I used a black and white picture which, you would think would not look attractive at all but I believe it looked quite stylish as it was attractive yet minimal, but to make it more punchy and attractive I have added bright colours for the text of the cover and strap lines to really grab the audience, engaging them into reading the magazine as I have said the magazine cover picture is black and white but it is interesting as the picture is intriguing, because it has been taken tastefully and I believe it would make the audience want to read on to find out more. Also I like the blend of colours within the cover lines and strap lines which are very bright to attract attention to what is included in the magazine.

 7. 7. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

In the creation of my product, I have used many different programmes and Technologies, I have learnt how to use blogger to put my work onto the internet and to important different file such as pictures and documents. I have also learnt how to adapt my magazine with programmes like windows publisher, to adapt pictures, boarders, fonts, text. I have also used programme such as Microsoft Power Point, to do my evaluation. Another great programme I used was Gimp which is a type of technology which lets you edit pictures, you can use a lot of different effects, you can insert, merge and crop pictures as well as erasing parts of the picture that look messy. Overall I think I have learnt a lot about editing my product using different tools.

 8. 8. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I feel from the preliminary task there have been a step up I have improved my skills at using different tools on my product from when I did the preliminary task, I have learnt a lot about different effects and the way things are put together, to make it effective, I have also learnt about what is need to construct a contents page and Double Page spread since doing the preliminary task.

I believe that the main task was a lot longer and harder than the preliminary task as there was a vast difference in the size between each project, I also think there has been a step up since doing the first part.
