How i developed conventions of real media products
For my contents page I used a unique layout using NME as a style model as they focus onthe same genre of music as my own magazine. I therefore developed conventions bytaking ideas from NME and developing them to produce an effective, unique contents ofmy own. I used conventions such as an ad for subscription and the layout of images andquotes however I challenged it with much more colour, features and fonts.
However the this contents page shows amuch more conventional layout which Ichallenged by using a more uniquelayout. I decided to deviate away from amuch more conventional layout as Ifound several images are much moreeffective from my audience research. Asmagazines are read in short bursts I alsofelt I must not use large blocks of textswhich is why I used short effectivequotes. However I did use conventionsfrom this conventional page by the boldsub-heading such as “NEWS.” I also usedconventions such as page numbers withdifferent font colours.
From my own product and NME’S above I evidently developed conventions by the useof layout features. I used a conventional, bold quote from my aritsit as I found inprofessional magazines this is effective in portraying an ego of the artist. I alsodeveloped conventions by using a strapline in the centre of the article as well as aleading introduction at the beginning of the article. I realised I must use thesesconventions in order to produce a professional, effective double page spread. I alsoused a second image in a different style which is also a typical convention/
