Snapping turtles can weigh between 10 to 35 pounds and have shells to protect themselves. They lay around 50 eggs and the young are called hatchlings. Snapping turtles hibernate in the winter and are omnivorous, eating both plants and other animals. As cold-blooded reptiles, they are currently endangered.
