Mentor-Protégé Session #2: Passion + STEM
STEM education can provide us with expanded career opportunities. As high school students, protégés are contemplating what to major in college and what kind of career to pursue. Does a future in STEM mean we have to trade in our passions for a career? The session will explore our interests and passions and how combined with STEM, our passions can elevate to greater heights!

WELCOME Girls in Technology Mentor Protégé Program VIRGINIA Session 2: PASSION + STEM Agenda: The GIT Mentor-Protégé Program starts promptly at 6:00 PM. • 6:00 - 6:30pm: Sign-in/Networking/Refreshments (You must sign in with the GIT front desk in order to record your attendance) • 6:30 – 6:40pm: Welcome & Announcements – Maria Sasinowski • 6:40 – 7:25pm: GIT Talks – Irene Lane & Aliyah Pandolfi • 7:30 – 8:30pm: Mentoring Session • 8:30pm: Closing

You have endeavored to combine your skills in business and finance with your passion for endangered species and sustainable communities. When did you first know that you wanted to make a difference in this field? What keeps the passion alive for you? Empowerment - It is so easy today to get caught in the trap of “I cannot make a mistake or my career path will be ruined!” Can you describe an instance where you failed (miserably) and what you learned from that experience? Reflection - If you could go back and talk to your 16 year old self for a few minutes, what advice would you give her both about STEM, career choices, and this program? Innovation – We’ve been discussing the core GIT belief of innovation meaning, continuously generating creative solutions to the problems of the world. Some of the problems that you have aimed to tackle are clean water and education for all – very difficult, complex issues . How do you believe these socio-economic and political issues can be advanced via STEM?
