  1. 1. Bellringer 8/15/11 1. Go get your reading journal off the front table. 2. Get a Home Reading Log sheet, Reading Log, & Library permission form off the front table.

  4. 4. BC Option #1: Difficulty Method
  5. 5. EASY (E) <ul><li>*Have you read it lots of times before? </li></ul><ul><li>*Do you understand the story very well? </li></ul><ul><li>*Do you know almost every word? </li></ul><ul><li>*Can you read it smoothly? </li></ul>
  6. 6. JUST RIGHT (JR) <ul><li>*Is the book new to you? </li></ul><ul><li>*Do you understand a lot of the book? </li></ul><ul><li>*Are there just a few words you don't know? (5 or less on a page) </li></ul><ul><li>*When you read, are some places smooth and some choppy? </li></ul>
  7. 7. CHALLENGING (C) <ul><li>*Are there more than 5 words on a page you don't know? </li></ul><ul><li>*Are you confused about what is happening in most of the book? </li></ul><ul><li>*When you read, does it sound pretty choppy? </li></ul>

Before you abandon a book, try this: <ul><li>Set yourself reasonable reading goals such as so many pages/chapters per day </li></ul><ul><li>Listen to books on CD (Audible.com & Itunes) </li></ul><ul><li>Skim through the chapters to see if it will get better </li></ul><ul><li>Try another book and come back to it later. (Attitude may change!) </li></ul>

Final Thoughts <ul><li>Carefully preview to make the best book selections </li></ul><ul><li>Make a reading plan & monitor your progress </li></ul><ul><li>Think about where you are going to do your reading!!! </li></ul><ul><li>Think about your reading habits.
