Tarce Hangaroo

  1. 1. TARCE, Mark Kenneth M. July 29, 2009 INTRIST S11 Ms. Estefanie Ulit The software assigned to us was about preschoolers learning English. And we chose HangARoo as our software for softwares built for preschoolers are very few compared to those in the higher levels. In regards with it’s design and game play, the design of the game is very eye catching, attractive and colorful for users of all ages, the humorous comments of the kangaroo and the silly animations keep the users, especially the preschoolers, amused but as for it’s game play, it’s not so motivating and so enjoyable. And what makes it not so enjoyable? Well it’s because of the words to be guessed, because some of the words are not in the range of knowledge of certain age groups, I, myself can’t get to the final stage without any help from an adult. And because of it’s very high difficulty level certain age groups find it boring and pointless but some also find it very challenging. Localizing this game takes a lot of effort. Why? It requires a lot of changes such as the kind of words or phrases to be guessed, also it needs pronunciation demos, pictures of the nouns of the guessed word, it mustn’t be a wide variety of words but must be categorized orderly not randomly. It needs topics concerning basic learning for preschoolers and advanced topics for higher levels and the difficulty and the category of the words to be guessed should be stated in the beginning of the game so that the user can keep up with the game. And so to sum it all, the game maybe fit for all ages but not for the understanding of certain age groups.
