Augmented Reality:Technology innovations for E-marketing

Published on

What is exactly Augmented Reality especially in the eyes of a technology geek? Here we present an interesting overview for developers how can they start their own apps.

On another track how can we utilize this interesting technology for E-marketing innovations, especially in sectors like travel business. Check out some interesting showcases here!

Augmented Reality:Technology innovations for E-marketing

  1. 1. Augmented Reality Technology innovations for E-marketing!
  2. 2. Augmented Reality
  3. 3. WHY
  4. 4. What is AR? “a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics, or GPS data.”
  5. 5. TECHNOLOGY? Layar & Junaio are AR browsers which you download to be able to experience AR
  6. 6. Technologies behind AR ●  Accelerometer: An accelerometer is a device that measures proper acceleration ●  Built-in camera: Any camera associated with smartphone ●  Compass: Used to detect device orientation ●  GPS: The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based satellite navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather conditions, anywhere on or near the Earth where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites.
  7. 7. What is Layar ? ●  Layar was founded in 2009, by Raimo van der Klein, Claire Boonstra and Maarten Lens-FitzGerald. ●  Layar is a mobile augmented reality browser.
  8. 8. What is Junaio ? ●  Junaio was initially released in November 2009 by Munich-based company Metaio GmbH. ●  Junaio is an augmented reality browser designed for mobile devices. ●  Junaio is the first augmented reality browser that has overcome the accuracy of limitations of GPS navigation through LLA markers.
  9. 9. Benefits Layar & Junaio
  10. 10. Vision They can both recognize real world images and QR codes as well as add virtual content to the real world images. (buttons, videos and 2D,3D objects)
  11. 11. Location based Indicates your location through the GPS, and then gives you all the point of interests around your location with specific radius. (it may be buttons, videos and 2D,3D objects)
  12. 12. 3D Gaming & Augmented Reality
  13. 13. Unity Unity is a cross-platform game engine with a built-in IDE developed by Unity Technologies, a common platform for 3D gaming applications used to make 3D games. It is used to develop video games for web plugins, desktop platforms, consoles and mobile devices, and is utilized by over one million developers.
  14. 14. Unity: Plugin Preview
  15. 15. Unity & Plugins Unity enables you to create augmented reality based applications via 3rd party plugins like Vuforia, Metaio & Wikitude. Unity eases the developer to add lighting, audio, special effects or physical animation to his environment. Unity supports the creation of any 2D or 3D content.
  16. 16. Vuforia is an Augmented Reality Software Development Kit (SDK) for mobile devices that enables the creation of Augmented Reality applications. It uses Computer Vision technology to recognize and track planar images (Image Targets) and simple 3D objects, such as boxes, in real-time. This image registration capability enables developers to position and orient virtual objects, such as 3D models and other media, in relation to real world images when these are viewed through the camera of a mobile device. The virtual object then tracks the position and orientation of the image in real-time so that the viewer’s perspective on the object corresponds with their perspective on the Image Target, so that it appears that the virtual object is a part of the real world scene.
  17. 17. AR FOR TRAVEL! Best Practices
  18. 18. Enhanced Travel Experience Create 3D pamphlets, brochures or flyers that enable you to see the place in a 3D image or video or lead you all the way there!
  19. 19. Museum Interactivity A virtual 3D picture created for a museum through which the tourist can experience the AR application under the 4 categories below: 1) Outdoor guides & explorers 2) Interpretive mediation 3) New media art & sculpture 4) Virtual exhibitions
  20. 20. Augmented Reality Translation An AR application that scans any text and provides a real-time immediate translation to the native user’s language.
