2. The task is instructing, not riding!

DEBRIEF
3. Brief
• Done ashore or on a stationary
boat/PWC
• Always includes safety
• Demonstrate in such a way that
everything is visible.
• Question to confirm
understanding.
4. Fitting everything into your brief
• ‘Bums on a rugby post’
How, What, Why, Where, When, Who
• If your students can answer all of these
questions then you are on the right track.
5. Task
• Set the right level of task.
• Allow mistakes – people learn!
‘Is this error a useful teaching opportunity?’
NOT – ‘It’ll serve him right if he capsizes!’
• Observe carefully.
• Ride with your students where possible=
max observation, min disruption.
6. Debrief
• As soon as possible after task.
• Be positive, good natured, helpful.
• Weaknesses: Be direct & honest – constructive
criticism.
• Avoid any ‘edge’.
• Tell them how to improve.
• Get feedback from the students.
• Emphasise the good points.
• PRAISE = PERFORMANCE.
