Presented at AHP/HCPRA 2010 NATIONAL CONFERENCE, Toronto. April, 19-20, 2010

Mental Illness and Stigma. The two always seem to go together. The Douglas Mental Health University Institute is trying to break this pattern, through public education and web 2.0 initiatives. It seems to be working, according to Douglas followers on its social media tools, such as YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. During her presentation, Marie-Gabrielle Ayoub talked about the thinking process, approach and actions behind the Douglas Institute’s web 2.0 experience.

    10. 21. “ Why do I torture myself writing this blog? Because I want to live in a world where people think more scientifically - more critically. I will do whatever I can to make a small contribution toward this goal. I want to live in a world where charlatans don’t take advantage of the ignorant. I want to live in a world where we stop making sweeping generalizations about groups of people. Most of all, I want to live in a world where people who think they know everything realize how little they know.” - Camillo Zacchia, PhD
    11. 27. « I’ve always believed the popularization of science for the benefit of the general public is one of the highest obligations of anyone who works in a scientific field (...) It’s absolutely essential to fully realizing the benefits of these discoveries. » - Ian Mahar, researcher student
