La comunicación digital y los nuevos medios se han vuelto tan naturales y cotidianos que es casi imposible imaginar la vida sin ellos. La proliferación global de las nuevas tecnologías ha abierto incontables oportunidades de acceso a la información volviendo cada vez más crítico el rol de las instituciones como bibliotecas, escuelas y universidades y de las personas que trabajan en ellas. Quienes trabajan en bibliotecas, como gestores y mediadores de información, están idealmente situados para fomentar nuevas formas de lectura por placer y nuevos hábitos críticos que todas las personas –desde los más jóvenes hasta la tercera edad – necesitan para navegar esta era de la información (real y falsa). En esta presentación, el expositor reflexionará en torno a sus dos décadas de investigación sobre lectura y comunicación digital, para luego proponer posibilidades y visiones para la próxima generación de bibliotecas y bibliotecarios, tomando en cuenta las oportunidades y desafíos que estos tiempos implican.
