  9. 9. Salmorejo and Lentejas—Myattempts at Spanish cocina● There are a zillion great Spanish foods, andwhat is more amazing is that for each greatSpanish food that exists, at least 5 towns havetheir own twist on it● Example—Salmorejo, Porra, Gazpacho
  10. 10. Porra Americana● Here is porra americana, which I made myself! It got the recipe from a Cordobesa, I was taughthow to make it by a Malagueña
  11. 11. Alas...● Admittedly, my porra americana is not asgood as salmorejo cordobés or porraantequerana. All Spaniards who tried itcould only say—
  12. 12. Falta algo...
  13. 13. Lentejas● I wanted to make a dish using sofrito, which Iknow to be the base of many Spanish dishes. Idecided on lentejas, and my Spanish abuelaand next door neighbor, Doña Ana, taught mehow!

  19. 19. MUSIC!
  20. 20. Spanish Music● Music is an integral part of any culture, since itcommunicates the experiences andperspectives of its people in a more immediatedirect way than most other artistic mediums● Some of my favorite Spanish musicalexperiences included● Murgas at Carnaval● Procesiones during Semana Santa● Flamenco, whenever and wherever (Jorge Pardo)● Coplas (El Cafe de Chinitas, La Morena de miCopla)
