  2. 2. <ul><li>1932 Born in Boston, Mass., the place we associate her with. </li></ul><ul><li>1940 Her father, a professor of entomology (the study of bugs) died due to complications from diabetes. </li></ul><ul><li>Her mother supported Sylvia and her brother by teaching secretarial school. </li></ul>Sylvia Plath and her brother.
  3. 3. <ul><li>Always a writer, kept a journal and submitted 45 pieces to Seventeen magazine before she had a short story published in 1950. </li></ul><ul><li>1950 Attended Smith College on a full scholarship. </li></ul><ul><li>Was chosen to be guest editor of Mademoiselle magazine during the summer of 1952. </li></ul>

  9. 9. <ul><li>1962 - Hughes leaves Plath for another woman. </li></ul><ul><li>Plath moves to a flat in London, an apartment that William Butler Yeats once lived in. </li></ul><ul><li>1963 - The Bell Jar is published under a pseudonym, Victoira Lucas. </li></ul><ul><li>She writes poetry at a feverish pace. </li></ul><ul><li>She struggles with depression through a difficult winter. </li></ul><ul><li>Commits suicide on February 11, 1963. </li></ul>
