  3. 3. Hands-on Workshop <ul><li>Creativity workshop (to be confirmed) </li></ul><ul><li>This workshop will teach students the processes involved in invention . Students will identify problems, solve them in creative ways and make their own inventions from everyday materials. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Common Toys Received <ul><li>Some common toys </li></ul><ul><li>Cars, Boats and Aeroplanes </li></ul><ul><li>Rolling can toys </li></ul><ul><li>Quiz toys </li></ul><ul><li>Workshop toys </li></ul><ul><li>Commercial toys </li></ul><ul><li>Jack-in-the-box </li></ul>
  5. 5. What is the ScizKid Award ? <ul><li>You are allowed to choose any suitable materials to create a toy, as long as the toy </li></ul><ul><li>demonstrates at least one scientific principle. Remember, the toy has to be safe and sturdy </li></ul><ul><li>to play with. </li></ul>
  6. 6. What is WhizKid Award <ul><li>The theme for this year’s WhizKid Award is Make Us Laugh . We are looking for a toy which would make people laugh when they play with it. Each toy must also use at least one spring to generate motion and you can even make your own spring using any material of your choice. </li></ul><ul><li>Example: Create a dancing doll, bouncing bunny or even a cheeky looking monkey. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Judging Criteria Scizkid Award Whizkid Award Scientific Content 1. There are scientific concepts presented in the toy 2. The scientific concepts are accurate 3. Scientific concepts have been presented in feasible representations. 1. There is at least one spring to generate motion 2. The toy “Make Us Laugh” and is fun to play with 3. Scientific concepts have been presented infeasible representations. Creativity & Originality 1. The toy is original and unique. 2. The toy communicates scientific concepts creatively. 3. The toy demonstrates use of unique design ideas.
  8. 8. Judging Criteria Scizkid Award Whizkid Award Sturdiness 1. The toy is sturdy and is safe to play with. 2. The toy does not fall apart easily during operation. 3. The toy made use of interesting, safe and easily available materials. Design 1. The toy possesses strong aesthetic appeal. 2. The toy is easy to operate. 3. The toy demonstrates good design principles.
