Yury Demidovich participated in the IDCEE 2013 Panel "The next innovation wave in mobile payments in CEE: who will survive?"

Yury Demidovich has served as head of business development of Visa Qiwi Wallet segment since November 2008. Mr. Demidovich has over 22 years of experience in the payment services industry. He is also a senior vice president in charge of business development at Qiwi Bank, a position he has held since November 2008. Before joining Yury Demidovich was CEO of JSC Sbercard from November 2005 until April 2007. Previously, from April 1991 until October 2005, he was an executive vice president of BGS SmartCard Systems A.G. and head of its Russian and CIS representative office. Mr. Demidovich graduated from Bauman Moscow State Technical University in 1988 with a master’s degree in engineering.

    We started by building what has become the largest network of kiosks in Russia. At these kiosks consumers insert cash into these machines…and then make a wide variety of Payments electronically.
    This was important…because in Russia…like most emerging markets…the majority of people use cash to make payments
    At a QIWI kiosk….a consumer can use cash to:
    …”Top Up” her mobile phone, as you just saw
    …pay his utility bills
    …buy a train ticket
    …send money to family members

    We built our network of kiosks by selling our service to local agents who own, maintain and distribute the machines….so WE don’t have to.

    Several years ago…we realized that we could ALSO offer our consumers an electronic wallet that they could use to store their cash…shop online…or make payments with their mobile phones
    So, we built the largest VIRTUAL payment system in Russia with acceptance by over 54,000 eCommerce merchants globally
