  1. Pigeonpea Research Initiatives in the Philippines Summary: Pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millspaugh] is an important food legume in the world. In the Philippines it is a minor crop and known as kadyos or kardis. At present, pigeonpea is cultivated on 2,000 hectares in the rainfed areas of the Philippines. It is perennial plant tolerant to drought and can grow under poor soils with a long picking period. In the Philippines, a series of exploratory trials were conducted since 1975 using ICRISAT varieties. The Philippine Pigeonpea Landraces Preliminary Results: 625 kg ha Philippine pigeonpea landrace.
