Product advertising <ul><li>For a single product e.g. model of car (but not range of cars) </li></ul><ul><li>Advertising principles: </li></ul><ul><li>Identify target audience of the product </li></ul><ul><li>Identify advertising campaign to appeal to that target audience </li></ul><ul><li>Identify media (one or many) to use that will reach the target audience </li></ul>

Business advertising <ul><li>To make a business famous (this will make money to advertise itself) </li></ul><ul><li>To make the company name familiar (not a product) </li></ul><ul><li>Same principles: </li></ul><ul><li>Identify target audience for the business </li></ul><ul><li>Identify advertising campaign to appeal to that target audience </li></ul><ul><li>Identify media (one or many) to use that will reach the target audience </li></ul>

Service Advertising <ul><li>This advertises services and NOT goods </li></ul><ul><li>Examples of service industries: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Insurance </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Government </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Tourism </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Banking </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Education </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Social services </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Same principles as before, however the service may not spend the same amount of money as a business </li></ul><ul><li>Tend to use TV to reach to a wider audience as they tend to appeal to a wide target audience if not everyone! </li></ul>

Websites <ul><li>This is a recent development </li></ul><ul><li>Tends to be cheap </li></ul><ul><li>Advertising is national and International </li></ul><ul><li>Company own website and other people’s websites </li></ul><ul><li>A web designer is employed to create the website, who can be expensive </li></ul>

Equipment used to build a website <ul><li>Hardware </li></ul><ul><li>Scanners: used to input photos </li></ul><ul><li>Microphones: used to input voice, maybe over a presentation/video </li></ul><ul><li>Video cameras: to upload videos </li></ul><ul><li>Digital cameras: to upload photos </li></ul><ul><li>Software </li></ul><ul><li>Web authoring software e.g. FrontPage, Dreamweaver </li></ul><ul><li>Photo-editing software e.g. PhotoShop </li></ul><ul><li>Animation software e.g. Flash </li></ul>

  15. 15. Advertising on other people’s websites <ul><li>Cheaper but there is a fee to the other person for allowing your banner/pop-up </li></ul><ul><li>Web banner: this like an online flyer/poster </li></ul>

Pop Up & Pop Up Under <ul><li>Pop-Up: this is when a small window appears on top of the webpage </li></ul><ul><li>Advantage of a Pop-Up : Immediately grabs the users attention </li></ul><ul><li>Disadvantage of a Pop-Up : Web browsers are more likely to block pop-ups and customer may not like pop-ups and not use the company for this reason </li></ul><ul><li>Pop-Up Under: this is a small window that appears under the webpage, so the user only notices it when they close the webpage. </li></ul><ul><li>Advantage of Pop-Up Under: Do not get blocked and do not annoy customers as much </li></ul>
  17. 17. Online directory <ul><li>Directories for business and service providers </li></ul><ul><li>Placed alphabetical order </li></ul><ul><li>Placed in a business/service section </li></ul><ul><li>Example: www.yell.com </li></ul>

Multimedia Presentations <ul><li>Incorporated in websites </li></ul><ul><li>Used on purpose-built displays and put in different locations </li></ul><ul><li>Examples: placed in malls, airports </li></ul><ul><li>Advantages: screens are on all the time in the mall, user can not switch off or control the presentation, quick and easy to update </li></ul><ul><li>This method is on the increase! </li></ul>

Flyers <ul><li>Usually a single page leaflet </li></ul><ul><li>Usually to advertise LOCALLY for example: restaurant, event, service, party at a club/bar </li></ul><ul><li>Usually used by small businesses/individuals </li></ul><ul><li>Cheap, quick and can be made using your own PC, DTP software and Printer </li></ul>

Poster <ul><li>Normally A1 in size </li></ul><ul><li>Can be made on own PC using DTP, Presentation or Photo-editing software </li></ul><ul><li>Used by small to larger national organisations </li></ul><ul><li>Billboards – are much bigger! </li></ul><ul><li>Need to use special printer services due to size </li></ul><ul><li>Used by small to larger national organisations </li></ul>
