Business Analytics, in our simple definition, is the combination of strategy thinking and the latest data processing and machine learning techniques. What is it for? The reason is to answer business questions that could not be addressed without the new technology and techniques. What’s new about this? Not much. We see it as a natural evolution driven by technology advancement. Just like how we solve problems from using stick on sand, pen and paper, calculator, to Excel. Now we have new technology and more techniques. ?

Hiring of New Breed of Talent •  BCG Gamma, McKinsey Analytics, and Deloitte's Strategic Analytics & Modelling are among the highest growing teams by headcount •  "You will be a formidable strategy consultant (or business professional) if you can understand both strategy and handle technical analytics ... when we hire people today, we look for people who can code, not just in Excel, but databases and machine learning to enhance our strategy study." - Michael Boricki, ex-BCG Partner 2. Current Investment •  Active acquisition of analytics firms in recent years; for instance, McKinsey acquired QuantumBlack and BCG bought stakes in TSG Consulting •  TD, CIBC, BMO, Scotia, RBC stood up new analytics teams across the organization; analytics is one of the top corporate agenda represented by investment dollar and number of new analytics projects 3. Future Market Trend: •  ~70% of the most-read publications among top consulting firms in the past year were all Analytics related; this will create more traction across top tier clients •  Over 75% of the mature tech and start-up in major incubators are analytics related; more dollar will be spent and because of the recent establishment of Vector Institute (AI focused incubator) in Canada. Yes. Looking into a career in analytics is not a bad choice given the traction and investment in the market.
