Satellite Access Network Solution

  1. 1. Business Benefits The network was designed to deliver the following specific business benefits and the continued growth of the network over the past 3 years is testament to success of the project. Most cost effective The primary criteria for the design and development of the FNB national and Africa satellite networks was, and is, that it must offer the most cost effective communication alternative. Against these criteria the network provides communication at a total life cycle cost lower than available 3G or ADSL services. Data Security and Business Integrity Data security and network protection is becoming one of the most demanding and highly important criteria of any financial communication network. The FNB satellite networks offers FNB Business team full control over all access layers with no risks of unauthorised 3rd party provisioning. Reliability In a market place where “always on 24hr per day” has become the minimum demand, the network reliability and service availability are non-negotiable. Adding to the fundamental advantages of satellite networks the iDirect solution offers advanced monitoring capabilities and linked to Q-KON’s team of field engineers can deliver 4hr MTTR results. Scalability First National Bank is in a rapid expanding phase with branches and ATM toll-outs active in both South Africa and Africa. It was critical to the engineering success that the iDirect solution is scalable from as low as 50 remotes sites to the current level of 3500 sites and with a planned capability of 5000 sites. This network scalability was achieved through a phased investment process that continuously balanced cost and business returns. 2. 2. Financial Satellite Access Services ATM Connectivity Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) require dependable connectivity to ensure maximum uptime and customer satisfaction. Located in shopping malls, petrol stations, remote locations, shops and stand-alone points, ATM services are a demanding application that can effectively be serviced with a satellite access network. The FNB satellite networks provides 24hr connectivity to a total of 2500 ATM end points linked to a 24hr monitoring system and an 8hr mean-time-to-repair policy. Business Continuity Today most, if not all, financial services provided at a branch location require access to the central server infrastructure located at head office. Due to the high bandwidth demand, it is preferable that the primary branch access services be provided with fibre and other terrestrial technologies. However, all communication networks have a risk of failure and when the primary access service to the branch fails, then all services fails. Implementing redundant terrestrial networks is often not financially feasible. The FNB network provides highly reliable branch back-up services to 550 remote branches with a planned roll-out to a total of 750 branches. The network support standby services at data rates of up to 1Mbps / 4Mbps and at a lower operational cost than available ADSL services. FNB Network Statistics The business, cost , engineering and technology success of the FNB iDirect satellite network is reflected in the following network growth, performance and reliablity statistics (dated May 2016); Contact Q-KON or your Service Provider regarding your requirements or tailor-made solutions. www.qkon.com enquiries@qkon.com
