Optical particle sizer pc controlled

  1. 1. 20.008 OPTICAL PARTICLE SIZER (PC CONTROLLED) Approval Date: 20 May 1998 Reviewed on : 23 October 2007 Version: 1 Equipment Specification: OPTICAL PARTICLE SIZER (PC CONTROLLED) Version 1 20.008-1/2 Purpose The optical particle size analyser will be used to analyse the grain size distribution of suspended silt and sand. A PC with specialised software will control the instrument. The analyses will be executed in a laboratory environment. Conditions & Requirements • Bottles containing "standard" suspended sediment for calibration shall be part of the delivery. • The software required for operating of the instrument and to do the analyses and processing shall be part of the delivery. • The vendor shall give specifications for the PC to operate the before mentioned software. The PC specifications shall also cover the interface requirements. Further, the particle size analyser shall: • measure grain size and the size distribution • measure volumetric distribution • calculate mean size and standard deviation • make scans of pre-selected sizes • instantly read the particle size and number Specifications type forward scattered light measurement grain size range 0.004 to 0.063 mm resolution 0.001 mm light source laser beam bottle size 20 to 100 mm diameter bottle material transparent glass or plastic readout volume approx. 1 cm3 power supply 220 VAC ±25%, 47 to 53 Hz
