1. 1. Film Genre
2. 2. Why is genre important to filmmakers and audiences?
People categorise everything, we like to put things in boxes to make sense of things. If someone was to watch a certain genre of film, like horror for instance, and they like it, they are drawn towards another horror because it will contain similar themes and values. Filmmakers will often make films within the same genre with some variation because they know that if one horror film is a success, then people are likely to see other films within that genre.
3. 3. Genre Explained
Genre is the repetition and variation of familiar and recurring codes and conventions but it is not just a simple means of classifying films. Genre’s can change over time and often hybrid genres are formed.

Severance – a horror-comedy
Shaun of the Dead – a ‘Romzomcom’
Funny People – a comedy-drama
