Richard, I thank you so much for your insightful comment. The cost of lost opportunities resulting from 'people fear looking stupid and afraid they will be blamed for what is considered stupid' is alarming. This is evidenced by the number of ideas that were thrown in the bin to turn out gems later.

  • Agree Ali - and often I find many cultures are laced with 'blame' and 'fear' also. This makes people fear looking stupid and afraid they will be blamed for what is considered stupid. It takes a strong person to resist this and keep pushing.

Welcome back, Sally. Your presence enriches the comments as this one testifies. I am happy that you provided more proofs on the way apparent stupidity turn into big ideas. Greatly appreciated comment

  • Is it stupidity or non conventional thinking? In a conservative Society the ideas and behaviours are set and expected. When someone is stupid it is something we disapprove of and feel superior about it. Being stupid means you do something which can make you feel belittled and people will mock you - but it is a line of defence whereby you can be more creative. We all thought tablet devices were stupid and such a dumb idea. Look at the market now and Apple is laughing all the way to the bank. This presentation is very carefully thought out and the examples are well drawn.

Wow! What a splendid response. I love every word of it. I appreciate the reinforcing examples you give. You ended your comment by saying 'What more can I say?' It is my turn to ask the same question.

  16. 16. Cindy Breden Life Coach Top Contributor Yes Ali I agree that going beyond the familiar and being in touch with the inner child can be a terrific way to achieve that. I just did that this morning ... the quiet, reserved, serious me accepted an invitation to be a clown and perform for others (way out of my comfort zone) ... the result is that I can feel the energy bubbling and it was FUN :-) I literally felt like a child again. Too often we can take this life far to seriously including our creativity and that seriousness (need to produce ... and not only produce, but produce perfectly) can interfere with the natural flow of creative energy :-)
  17. 17. My response Cindy, your experience this morning and literally feeling like a child prompts me to go the extra mile. I say even I act and do few things that would make me a fool. I even dared to write a short presentation on : Stupidity Spawns Creativity http://www.slideshare.net/hudali15/stupidity-spawnscreativity Yes, sometimes we need to go the full swing from seriousness to hilariousness
  18. 18. Cindy Breden Life Coach Top Contributor Thank YOU Ali for sharing. We are all in this together ... life ... creativity ... all of it ... and who knows where creativity, life in general, is going to lead us? What I love about this conversation about the inner child is that we ARE the child and the Adult ... the creativity flows from/through the child and by creating a safe space for us to allow the inner child to be free we create a space for creativity beyond the confines of our "adult" conditioning. What appears crazy or stupid or foolish to one person may be just what another person needs in their lives. As creative spirits we can simply be the vessel that allows the creativity to flow through ... free to be in the world around. Thank you Ali for having the courage to allow your expression to speak to all of us here. Many of the inventions we take for granted in our lives today were brought forth by people thought to be crazy :-)
