The presentation offers a novel approach to predicting winners in soccer and in business.
Getting the fish in the net and sending the ball in the net share many commonalties. Extending our experiences in fishing shall help us strategize the football games and business games as well. Based on this extrapolation who shall be the winning team in the World Cup Tournament 2014? The presentation offers an answer.

  • I wish to thank professor Rod King for his suggestion to rename the title of this presentation. The new title 'The Art of Hunting in Fishing and Football: How to Win the World Cup' was suggested by Rod in his comment on this presentation. I give credit to where it is due.

  • Rod,
I dare to say that a presentation with a comment from you is fortunate because for sure the author and the readers will benefit.
I am going to change the title of this presentation to the one you suggested.
It is only timely that predictions are hard to make as evidenced by your reference to the Spain- Holland game. Who would have dared to guess the result?

I thank you again, Rod, for reminding me that sometimes it is not only strategy and tactics, but also a matter of luck. The Spanish goalkeeper made a blunder, which resulted in the fourth goal. It was the same goalkeeper who made two miraculous saves to stop Holland from scoring the sixth goal.

  • Ali, As I read through your topical presentation that relates to World Cup 2014, I was reminded of the snippets of wisdom in Sun Tzu's classic book, 'The Art of War.' Allow me to grant myself a poetic license and call your presentation, 'The Art of Hunting in Fishing and Football: How to Win the World Cup.' And I'm not being facetious here. In my narrow and biased world, I consider what you have presented as patterns or winning strategies for hunting as well as predator-prey games. On the football pitch, the roles of predator and prey constantly change while the strategies to win remain constant. Of course, individual winning tactics may vary as these depend on the context at hand. Nevertheless, as in the timeless wisdom in the Art of War, your logic in the Art of Hunting remains constant. Coaches and players who are looking to catch their opponent (prey or fish) off-guard in this year's World Cup may learn a strategy or two from your presentation. Oh, I have a sneaky suspicion that the coach/players of the Netherlands football team may have peeked at your presentation (:-)! How else would the Netherlands have been able to so successfully wage a hunt for goals against Spain? Interestingly the Dutch were able to spell 'fish' not in the traditional way but in the logic of George Bernard Shaw's 'ghoti,' which is a whimsical 5-letter phonetic spelling of the word, 'fish.' Thanks to your presentation, I'm now looking at games in the World Cup not only using a fisheye lens but also through the paradigm of predator and prey. What a funner World Cup!

  • and same with german government issues :-) i can solve and face concept solution models within 2hours. If they let me interact with the right people. But for example if a Homeless friend of mine is running from agency and job and social agency to the other. And it takes months to inspire a little hope views in him on his ways and to see that institutions in Berlin Broke the Law while just beeing service 'dumbs' than according to german Law My Wealth shall be used for (930 € a Month a flat and me in Berlin) shall be used for Societies and Citizens Benefits. Poperty in line according to the German Law shall be used for Citizens Benefits this includes as well my Monetary resources and social skills knowledge and the way i learned to get along with Other humans in Berlin. My Poperty shall be used for Citizens Benefits. The law does not define which sort or which amount of poperty shall be used for benefits. So its up to me to define that in my everyday life. In Berlin a 47 year Old man which worked 25 years can within 6 month restore up to 30 flats without getting a minimum of wage but one cup of coffee and a lot of work a day ;-) one flat restoration has a market value of 2000€ but it happens as well in Germany Berlin and i suspect anywhere in the world that Humans Woman and Men which do all work often dont get anything for it but a pocket money some food and not even a Bottle of tea while doing so ;-) I am Glad he is as tall as me 2 meters and that the clothings i gave him fit. (i did not only give him my old clothings but also some which i bought new ;-). In my flat all clothings mostly dont cloth anyone but one person :-) But when needed they can cloth somebody which needs and story i get to know. Keep in Mind Ali i test social systems from below and social circles from below. second class medcine what is possible with low budget where the law borders are. What they cause in the social interaction circles. Which teachings of economics and law or low budget trade and everyday needs are possible. In berlin. What happens to people i facebook skype with when i send them 240 € :) or 300€ to africa kenya. What happens if i send 200€ as charity to german government cathastrophy aid (the kenyan friend stayed into contact with me over months) from the german government agency i got one SMS with 3 lines of litrature send by an alhorythm of IT programming. And i see what happens on my bank account ;-) statements.

  • Depends on the sparing partner ;-) For example today i thought about going to the rushian Embrassy in berlin or Cultural and Science Center of Rushia in Berlin. If they would pay the Cab ;-) I would leave Ideas and Solutions for some rushian Infastructure Innovations there. Some greentech alternatives. I would do that as well with the Ukrainian Embrassy. Or even Any Middle eastern country :-) or european. On their terms. But if they only want a copy paste text its not very motivating to do so :-)

Getting the fish (ball) in the net

  1. 1. Ali Anani, PhD The Art of Hunting in Fishing and Football: How to Win the World Cup The Art of Hunting in Fishing and Football: How to Win the World Cup
  2. 2. I am as curious as you are to make a sound guess of the World Cup 2014 winner
  3. 3. This is a formidable task that I decided to embark on
  4. 4. The team that nets more goals shall be the winner
  5. 5. The team that nets more goals shall be the winner And the players shall be fishing to put the goal in the net Like a fisherman who wishes to put as many goal fish in the net
  6. 6. Putting the ball in the net and putting the fish in the net
  7. 7. We need to grasp how fish behave and react in order to catch them Likewise; in soccer and in business you need to understand how your competitor behaves and reacts to catch him
  8. 8. The fish has to be in the right mood to enter the net Always consider the mood of fish and the environment they are in. This will help you find the best speed. Mood is defined by weather and the time of year. High and low barometric pressure are a part of the weather question. They both have a significant impact on the mood of all fish.http://fishing.about.com/od/troutandsalmon/a/moodyfish.htm
  9. 9. The fish has to be in the right mood to enter the net Activity level in fish will change with the movement or lack of barometer movement. You must know what the weather has been preceding your fishing trip. This information will set the stage giving you the information you can use to your advantage. A clear blue high sky after a low pressure front is every anglers nightmare. Fish get spooky, neutral or negative in these conditions. http://fishing.about.com/od/troutandsalmon/a/moodyfish.htm
  10. 10. The winning soccer team will find out the mood of the competitor team members. The winning team will also control the speed of the game to lure his rival. 11. 11. Moody fish are also affected by the temperature of the water Moody fish are also affected by the temperature of the water
  12. 12. Moody fish are also affected by the temperature of the water Fish are cold blooded and their metabolism changes as their body temp changes. Most anglers know there are cold and warm water species of fish. Which means all fish if given a choice will find their preferred temperature range
  13. 13. The winning soccer team shall put the rival team in the wrong zone of comfort. If the team prefers “hot” game, the winning team shall slow down the game The winning soccer team shall put the rival team in the wrong zone of comfort. 14. 14. If one attacker of the rival team missed an easy goal in a recent game and the media mocked him If one attacker of the rival team missed an easy goal in a recent game and the media mocked him
  15. 15. The mood of this player might be negative. He might be an easy catch for the other team The mood of this player might be negative. He might be an easy catch for the other team
  16. 16. Fish mood affects the size of lures and the jigging actions we use.
  17. 17. The winning team knows how to jig and in what space to outperform the competing team
  18. 18. Fish mood affects the color of lures and the jigging actions we employ
  19. 19. The winning team lures the opponent team with the right lure color. They show a “red eye” when needed, but shift color if need rises
  20. 20. Negative fish have an extremely small strike zone in comparison to actively feeding bass. hookupshttp://guide.sportsmansguide.com/tips/timely-tactics-for-n egative-mood-largemouth-2/
  21. 21. Negative defensive play by the underfish (underdog) team requires constant striking in this zone by the other team
  22. 22. Downsize Your BaitBig crankbaits, large worms or bulky flipping jigs hold no interest for a negative-mood bass. They will continually turn their noses up at these offerings, but they can be coaxed by a smaller version of the same lure. http://guide.sportsmansguide.com/tips/timely-tactics-for-negative- mood-largemouth-2/
  23. 23. Smaller offerings might be more luring to the competing team. I would say reserve player might be more effective to tempt the opposing team leave its defensive zone Smaller offerings might be more luring to the competing team. I would say reserve player might be more effective to tempt the opposing team leave its defensive zone
  24. 24. Targeting negative-mood largemouth can be a tough and tiring game, but they can be beaten by changing your approach and tactics Targeting negative-mood largemouth can be a tough and tiring game, but they can be beaten by changing your approach and tactics
  25. 25. If a team senses the rival team is in a negative mood it starts early trying different playing tactics to unlock the weak points of the negative team and crack it. Fixed tactics might fail If a team senses the rival team is in a negative mood it starts early trying different playing tactics to unlock the weak points of the negative team and crack it. Fixed tactics might fail
  26. 26. Emotion-performance relationships are dynamic, especially when playing team with negativity
  27. 27. Fish operate best within narrow zones of temperature, pressure and wind speed
  28. 28. So are individual members of a team-within-individual consistency of the individual zones of optimal functioning (IZOF) http://www.urheilututkimukset.fi/web/julkaisut/5145/
  29. 29. The winning team knows in advance the emotion- performance pattern of each player of the opposing team
  30. 30. For example, if a player is known to get angry easily and his performance goes down accordingly, the opposing team may outrage him to the extent that he might get the red card and be sent off
  31. 31. Negative thoughts are so many as: Fear of Failure Fear of Success Fear of Disapproval or Criticism
  32. 32. Fear of failure is constraining and may kill playing creatively. Brazilian team will have the fear of losing on its own ground, for example
  33. 33. Negative emotions might subdue talents and opposing teams may benefit from that
  34. 34. This fear may be easily detected from the number of incorrect passes Fear has a smell that the opposing team may detect
  35. 35. Negative thoughts might generate storms in the mind of the negative player
  36. 36. Like we have scale for wind
  37. 37. Likewise, negative thinking may generate winds of great disturbing effects Remember, out of control thinking leads to out of control performance
  38. 38. Because of the Butterfly Effect we are unable to predict the weather for more than 80% accuracy up to three days
  39. 39. Who dares to predict the weather in the minds of players for the duration of the world cup 2014?
  40. 40. Dare I predict? No, as I would resemble hunting a specified goal fish in a stormy ocean
