  1. 1. Corals are marine animals and exist as small sea anemone –like polyps, typically in colonies of many identical individuals.
  2. 2. The group includes the important reef builders that are found in tropical oceans which secretes calcium carbonate to form a hard Skeleton .
  3. 3. Corals are highly sensitive to environmental changes.
  4. 4. Scientists predicts that 50% of the corals may be destroyed by 2030
  5. 5. Red shades of coral are sometimes used as a gemstone , especially in Tibet .
  6. 6. In vedic astrology, red coral represents Mars.
  7. 7. Pure red coral is known as “fire coral” and is very rare because of the demand for perfect fire coral in jewellery – making.
  8. 8. A combination of temperature changes, pollution, and overuse by divers and jewelry producers has led to the destruction of many coral reefs around the world.
