Poteet High School Technology Action Plan
1. Poteet High School Technology Action Plan
2009-2012
Analysis of Need:
Our campus is a very proficient technology based campus, but like almost all
campuses across the country it could improve. Our school lacks in the number of
personal computers per student and the computer access for classrooms within
the school. Our school is comprised of approximately 1500 students and only has
one community computer lab for teacher and class use. The English department
has two mobile lab carts with 30 lap tops each, but like the mobile lab, it is not
enough. 13 teachers sharing 60 computers in an English department is not
sufficient to meet the demanding technology needs. Our students have access to
the library throughout the day, but after school our students do not have any
access to computers or the internet. The teachers on the campus have been
given many resources to use in the classroom including: Elmo’s in each room, a
projector in each room, smart board’s in the Math rooms, and wireless internet
throughout the school. Even with these resources our teachers are not utilizing
technology to the extent that it should be.
Areas for Improvement:
• Increase in budget towards computer purchase for each campus.
• Purchase more mobile labs that may be used anywhere on campus. Working
towards having 1 mobile lab cart for every 5 teachers.
• Work with the SBDMC and the district personnel to develop a new
Technology Acceptable Use Policy. Gearing the policy towards a broader use
of the internet for classroom use.
• Create an after-school computer lab environment. Have an open computer
class everyday after school so students may have more access to the internet
and other programs.
• Mandate a school-wide blog requirement for all teachers. Require that all
teachers maintain a blog and the blog must include: class calendar,
discussion/question board, major documents (ppt, etc), and an interactive
forum for class discussion.
Staff Development needed:
• Staff will need to be trained how to use the mobile labs more effectively.
Training should include how to log on, navigate the internet, use basic
programs (Microsoft Office, MovieMaker, etc.) and creating a Blog.
• Staff will also need to be trained on Blog creation. They will need to be shown
how to create a blog and how to utilize all of the many aspects. Creating and
uploading files will be a must along with ideas on how to incorporate blogs in
the classroom.
