  1. 1. 1 VACANCY NOTICE VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT UNWTO/PERS/VAC/03/TMTS/2014 TITLE OF THE POST Programme Officer Tourism Market Trends Programme GRADE OF THE POST P.1 The initial grade and step on appointment will be determined by the Secretary-General on the basis of qualifications and in the light of previous similar appointments and could be at a grade different from that shown above. Appointments are normally at step 1 of the grade. The Secretary-General reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a lower level than the advertised level of the post. ANNUAL REMUNERATION Depending on qualifications carries an initial base salary of US$ 37,273 per annum (single rate) and US$ 39,514 per annum (dependent rate). Post adjustment is applicable in conformity with UN procedure. DUTY STATION Madrid (Spain) DATE OF ENTRY ON DUTY As soon as possible DURATION OF APPOINTMENT If, following consideration of applications, the Secretary-General proceeds to fill this vacancy, a fixed-term appointment for a period of two years – subject to a four-month probationary period – will be offered. This contract may then be renewed once, up to a maximum total of five years. At the end of this period, the Organization will discuss whether to grant or not an indeterminate appointment. There is, however, no guarantee either that the initial contract will be renewed or that a career appointment within UNWTO will subsequently be offered. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Tourism Market Trends Programme is responsible for providing up-to-date analysis and research on tourism trends and forecasts, for identifying and disseminating expertise on effective and innovative marketing strategies and techniques, and for assisting Members in these fields. Under the supervision of the Programme Director, the incumbent shall carry out the following main duties: 1. Drafting in concise and clear language of text, reports, releases, presentations and notes related to research conducted in the Programme, predominantly in English;
  2. 2. 2 2. Editing of text prepared by other members of the team and external collaborators to incorporate in material prepared by the Programme; 3. Coordinating and supervising projects undertaken with external partners; 4. Coordinating and supervising work executed by external collaborators; 5. Participating in meetings and making presentations, as required; 6. Conducting duties in support of other Operational Programmes as well as Regional Programmes of UNWTO; 7. Providing service directed to Member States or other UN agencies and international organizations. REQUIREMENTS Academic University degree in social sciences, economics, business administration or related field. A post-graduate degree may be an asset. Experience and basic competencies Two or three years related professional work experience in a research or communications related function in public administration, consultancy or enterprise. Proven skills in reporting of results and drafting/editing a variety of written reports, studies and other communications Affinity with the analysis of statistical data and qualitative information. Familiarity with and experience in the use of various research methodologies and sources. Languages Fluency in oral and written English, including a demonstrated ability to draft accurately, clearly and concisely in this language. Working knowledge of other official languages of the Organization (Arabic, French, Russian or Spanish) would be an asset. Computer skills Computer literate, at user-level of applications such as Windows 7, Microsoft Office 2010 programmes and tools, Acrobat. Advanced user-level knowledge of IT tools related to data analysis would be an asset. Other skills and competencies  Analytical and research skills;  Ability to articulate ideas in a clear and concise manner  Positive attitude, flexibility and initiative;  Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, multiethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity;  Familiarity with UNWTO and the United Nations Common System is an asset.
