Mit dem Bau des Assuandamms drohten die Tempel im Stausee zu versinken. Sie wurden in 1 041 Blöcke zersägt und 64 Meter höher und 180 Meter landeinwärts wieder aufgebaut. Seit 1979 steht Abu Simbel auf der UNESCO-Liste für Weltkulturerbe </li></ul>
