Holly Taylor used various media technologies throughout the research, planning, and construction of her music video. During research, she used YouTube to analyze existing music videos and identify typical codes and conventions. She also used Google Images to research album designs. For planning, she created and distributed a survey using SurveyMonkey to gather audience preferences. Adobe Premiere and After Effects were used to edit the video and add special effects. Blogger and SlideShare documented her progress and allowed sharing of documents. Overall, new media technologies helped at all stages and allowed technological convergence in producing high quality media products.

2. Media technologies helped me greatly when creating my music video through the research,
planning, construction and evaluation. I have developed a varied range of skills using
software and hardware in every stage of production of my music video. By using a wide
range of media technologies, I was able to display a use of technological convergence, an
example of this is how I was able to import my media clips for my music video and edit the
video all on one computer, as well as being able to produce my digipak and poster on
photoshop software and create my evaluation pieces on software such as Prezi.

3. For the research aspect of my coursework, I needed to use the media
technology of Youtube in order to research existing media texts. Using
Youtube allowed me to discover multiple different music videos to analyse
them to establish their typical codes and conventions. Using a free media
platform like Youtube allowed me to discover music videos of varied genres
and so I was able to watch music videos to decide upon what genre I would
like my music video to be associated with. By being able to view music
videos of multiple genres, I was helped with the planning stages of my
music video, in order to plan for what I wanted to include, such as costume
and styles of editing.

4. I also used google images in order to copy images over into a word document or a powerpoint to
analyse the digipaks or posters for their album advertisements. Google images allowed me to
choose from a range of album advertisement posters and digipaks to choose a variety of designs
so that I could discover multiple conventions of advertisement posters and digipaks.

5. For my market research, I conducted a survey, where I chose questions with multiple choice options for the
participants to choose from. I created this survey in order to gather information in regards to what my target
audience would like to expect to see in the music video I was going to create. Using survey monkey allowed me
to easily distribute my survey to my participants through the option to send the survey out via email and so my
participant could easily click the link to the survey and complete it for me so that I could analyse the results that I
received back from them. One limitation of Survey Monkey, is that you could only provide ten questions and so I
couldn’t ask more in depth questions about some of the ones I had previously asked.

6. Adobe Premier is a highly advanced software and so allowed me to create
a high quality product similar to that of real previously existing music
videos. With such advanced software, I wasn’t fully aware of every feature
available for me to use to edit my music video with such as effects and
transitions, and so I was quite limited to simpler effects and transitions
when editing my music video. Also, when it came to using Adobe Premier, I
was able to easily try out different video clips by dragging and dropping
them into the timeline and so I could playback the music video and decide
upon what clips I would like to feature in my music video. The
trimming tools were also very helpful as I was able to trim down the clips of
my music video down to however long I wanted the clips to last for in time
with the snare beat of the backing track.

7. I successfully used Adobe after effects to edit my music video and to create an old cine style
effect on my music video. I did this by applying a distorted effect over every clip that featured in
the music video. I also used after effects to apply a border around the video and so the effect of
rewatching the events on a projector was established. I did struggle to use after effects effectively
and so it was quite time consuming using after effects because I had to tamper with different
effects and percentages in order to achieve the desired effects.

8. My progress when designing the ideas for my music video and digipak and poster was
documented through the website of Blogger. I used the software website of Slideshare in order to
upload my word documents and powerpoints, such as the powerpoints which contained the
analysis for previously existing media texts like digipaks and advertisement posters. I was able to
upload images and Youtube videos to blogger.com by using embedded codes and copying and
pasting the embed link to the HTML section on Blogger.

9. Overall, new media technologies were a very important part of creating my media products, as
using existing media technologies allowed me to understand conventions of existing music
videos, digipaks and advertisement posters. Using photoshop and adobe premier allowed me to
develop a high quality media products similar to already existing media texts. All three stages,
research, development, distribution all allowed me to display technological convergence as all my
stages of production were finished on one computer.
