  • Handout needed – Equipping the Healthy Kitchen Publication # FDNSE 89-19 - do not give out until after the activity is completed Activity: Before the class, prepare a display of some of the equipment discussed in this presentation. Give out an index card to each participant that describes what one piece of equipment can do to help with healthy food preparation. For example, if you display the juicer, give out a card that says “squeezes lemon juice to season vegetables and meat.” Have the participants look at the display and put their cards in front of the piece of equipment they think does each thing listed. You can have more than one card for each piece of equipment if your group is large. As you speak, reveal the correct answers. Note to Agent: Have available a list of local stores that carry these items. Many of these items are available on the internet if people have computer capabilities. Preparing nutritious food can be easier if you use some kitchen equipment that you may already have or that you may wish to purchase in different ways. Today we will look at some of this equipment and discuss how it can be used to improve your nutritional intake.
