2. • A social entrepreneur is someone who
recognises a social problem and uses
entrepreneurial principles to
organise, create, and manage a venture
to make social change.

population accounts for 5 percent of
global income. The richest 20 percent
accounts for three-quarters of world
income.
• At least 80% of humanity lives on less
than $10 a day.
• Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century
unable to read a book or sign their names.
5. • Water and food-related diseases, simply
because the poor can't always afford "safe"
foods.
• Poor housing, a long-lasting cause of diseases;
6. • You can donate food, money, clothing, toiletry items, old
furniture, toys and magazines.
• You can volunteer with kids, families, the elderly, the
disabled, the homeless, women, and the mentally ill; in
shelters, soup kitchens, community centers, after school
programs, and employment centers. You can teach
literacy, resume development, job training courses, ESL,
computer class, coach sports, serve food, and provide
counseling.
• If you want to educate your fellow students, try getting
approval to hang posters with facts and statistics about
homelessness and poverty around your school's
campus. Facts that hit close to home are one of the best
ways to mobilize individuals to make a difference. Don't
forget to include ideas for ways to take action!
