destroy the Ayyubid Empire and recapture
Jerusalem since 1208.

of Brienne.
4. Where did it take place?
• The 5th crusade took place in Cairo, Egypt
5. What were the Effects?
• Discoveries – There were geographical and
technological discoveries.
• Information – The strategy was that there was
no point in attacking Jerusalem when Egypt
was so strong and it was easier to take Egypt
under Christian control.
• Economic – Europe’s wealth decreased
because they spent too much money on
supplies and financially assisted this crusade.
6. How did it end?
• As the crusaders began to march into
Cairo, the Nile River flooded ahead of them
which caused them from going farther.
Supplies began to dwindle and after a night
attack, the army surrendered.
7. Did another crusade
follow this?
• Yes. The 6th crusade followed this. Since they
surrendered the fifth crusade and didn’t get
Jerusalem back, they had to go back and this
time they won.
