  2. 2. Scientific name: Olea Europaea <ul><li>They considered the oldest fruit trees and certainly are one of </li></ul><ul><li>the most important </li></ul><ul><li>fruit trees in history! </li></ul>
  3. 3. His culture has been closely connected to the rise of Mediterranean empires and other advanced civilizations through out the ages.
  4. 4. A necessary requirement for Mediterranean population growth and increase. Because olive trees offered wealth and future food supplies to many civilizations, the nations of the Mediterranean sea became big societies.
  5. 5. <ul><li>Dependable fruit production and olive oil production means that olive trees </li></ul><ul><li>Must exist in a stable society </li></ul><ul><li>and a peaceful environment. </li></ul>
  6. 6. That stability must extend for many years, since most ancient seedling olive trees required eight or more years before ever producing the first crop of fruit.
  7. 7. <ul><li>Throughout the various civilisations, the olive tree and olive oil have occupied pivotal positions in the economy of Mediterranean countries and in their commerce with neighbouring populations. </li></ul>
  8. 8. In Minoan times <ul><li>On their wall paintings we can see the olive tree </li></ul>The Minoans of Crete achieve production on olive oil, and Crete continues to be an important olive production area to the present day.
