Exporting Digital Video for Interactive Media Products
Worldwide Web
Exporting my final video to the worldwide web allows me plenty of different advantages. By
uploading to the worldwide web I am able to get my video everywhere. The worldwide web has
become such a huge base for every computer and there are millions of people on it every day at the
same time. By me uploading my video to YouTube or Facebook I am enabling anyone to watch it
who wants too. With this I am allowing a range of different feedback but also allowing others to use
my ideas. By uploading to the internet also I am showing many different people from all over what
Cheadle College can offer. I can put my video onto the college website also so people who are
interested can view the video if they choose.
DVD
DVD was another option I had to export my finished piece too. By exporting to a DVD I am sending
my final piece to anyone who wants it. This is more of a restriction as not everyone has a DVD player
and many people are connected to the worldwide web these days instead.
Having a copy of my video on a DVD allows people to get copies if they choose. Many people view a
promotional video like this only once as they don’t need to repeat it so exporting to a DVD was not
something I thought I would benefit from.
.MOV
This is an Apple QuickTime movie player so it is compatible with many different sources. This is
primarily the best format to use as you can use it almost anywhere. On many different computers
you are only able to view videos in either Windows Media Player or QuickTime; this file extension is
compatible with both so there is never an issue when it comes to this. I exported my file to .MOV for
this reason and feel that now my video can be played anywhere no, matter what computer the user
has.
Compression
Compression was important to me because my video was of a reasonable quality already I did want
any file extension to compress the work I had already done. I made sure that there were no options
when it came to compressing as I didn’t want it to happen. I kept all my work in the right format and
didn’t need to compress my file for a small media player such as a phone or tablet. I said previously
in my technical considerations that compression would crush the data within my video and my
images quality and sound quality may come out distorted and jumpy. Exporting my file to .MOV
didn’t do any of this.
Windows Media Player
Windows media player was another format that I was worried about. When exporting my video I
had to take windows media player into account for me to be able to view the overall finished
project. Like in my file extension paragraph I have noted that on many windows computer within the
software package windows media player is installed. This is the default player. So many computers

have this installed it is important that my video is compatible with this. My video is compatible as I
exported it to an .MOV which is compatible with both Windows Media Player and QuickTime.
