The focus is on the time of fulfillment of God’s promise.

Commentary  The psalm is classified as a psalm of individual lament.  It can also be considered as a psalm of trust.  Vv.4-5 recognize God as teacher, guide and savior.  The psalmist was a good theologian.  Vv.8-9 strengthen the idea that God is a teacher and a guide.  God loves the sinners and the humble.  V.10 states that those who keep God’s word will experience God’s kindness and steadfast love.  V.14 states who the friends of God are: – Those who fear him and keep his covenant.

Reflections on the 2Reflections on the 2ndnd readingreading  The second reading contains many suggestions on how we should prepare ourselves for the coming of the Lord.  The word “love” is the key to prepare. – Not just the usual “love”, but increased (expanded), more encompassing, more embracing, more universal, egalitarian love, not choosy and picky love; – It is an apostolic love, like that of Paul and companions.  Another way to prepare is to be blameless. – Reflect more on what it means to be “blameless in holiness.” It is the avoidance of sin.  We may look holy, but deep within, we are full of “holes” (full of malice, suspicion, greed, hatred, etc.); people accuse us of slandering and cheating them, etc.  Are you capable of showing extraordinary love?

Imperatives  28 But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand."  34 "Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise 35 like a trap. For that day will assault everyone who lives on the face of the earth. 36 Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man." The focus is on the coming of the Son of Man.
