Vertical adjustment at the front may be made by adjusting the hood bumpers up or down. Adjust the hood to the front fender clearance gap to between 2.5-5.5 mm (0.10-0.22 in) on each side of the hood. Tighten the hood mounting bolts. Tighten: Tighten the hood mounting bolts to 13 N.m (9 lb ft). 5. Remove the hood support. 6. Lower the hood. Adjust the height of the hood bumpers (1) until hood front clearances are flush at a measurement of within -1.5 to +1.5 mm (-0.06 to +0.06). 4. Lower the hood. Remove the 2 mounting bolts which secure the hood (1) to each of the hood hinges (3). 8. Remove the hood with the aid of a helper. Secure the hood with 2 mounting bolts at each hinge. Do not tighten fully. IMPORTANT: Before installing the hood, be sure to apply anti-corrosion treatment to the hood and hood hinge mating surfaces. Secure the latch with the 3 bolts (3) and one plastic retainer but do not tighten fully. 3. Make the following adjustments to the hood latch: The striker shaft lines up with the center groove of the latch. The hood is flush with the front fender. Refer to Hood Adjustment . Tighten: Tighten the hood latch bolts to 8 N.m (70 lb in).   20. 20. 4. Lower the hood. HOOD LATCH RELEASE CABLE REPLACEMENT Removal Procedure Fig. 19: Hood Latch Release Cable Handle and Instrument Panel Courtesy of GENERAL MOTORS CORP. 1. Raise and suitably support the hood. 2. Remove the hood secondary catch and primary latch. Refer to Hood Latch Replacement . 3. Gently pry the hood primary latch release cable handle (1) from the lower instrument panel (2) using a taped flat bladed screwdriver. 4. Remove the hood hold-open rod (1) from the retaining clip (3). 3. Rotate the hold-open rod (1) from the normal rest position 90 degrees counterclockwise. 4. Pull forward and remove the hold-open rod (1) from the grommet (2).
