Wear a Lifejacket! Especially children. When
boating, it is important to always wear a
lifejacket. According to the United States Coast
Guard, more than 80 percent of drowning
victims could have been saved had they been
wearing lifejackets.

Check the Weather. Before departure, check the
local weather to ensure that conditions out on
the water aren’t hazardous. If there are heavy
winds in the forecast or dark clouds on the
horizon, you may want to reschedule your
outing for another day.

Inform Others of Your Plans. Prior to any
boating trip, it is always a good idea to inform
another person of your plans or course, whether
it is a relative or a staff member at the marina.
Information should include estimated time of
the trip, contact information of all passengers on
board, and what type of communication
