(1) what’s the problem? “I
leave things to the last minute. And it gets me in trouble.” (write that down)
(2) Why do I do
it? “I do it because I think somehow I’ll avoid the hard work.”
(3) What will I do
instead? 1) break big projects into 20 minutes chunks, 2) block time on my calendar, 3) use my 20 minute blocks to only work on one project (like I am right now)
(4) What’s the reward? “I’ll
feel relief to get the work done. Plus, I get to cross it off my list.” Great! Now follow your plan.
WARNING: Don’t overthink this. Sure
we have global warming, an oil crisis, and movie stars splitting up. Meanwhile, you’ve got a life to live. So, pull up your shorts, create Hero Habits and make life awesome.
Stephen King always writes 10
pages a day (even on holidays) “If you cannot find the time for that, you can't expect to become a good writer.”
Jack Dorsey* *(co-founder Twitter and
Square) has a specific focus for each day of the week (Monday is management, Tuesday is products, Wednesday is marketing, etc.)
“After a few days you'll
have a chain. Your only job is to not break the chain.” Jerry Seinfeld puts a big X on his calendar every day he writes new material.
