7. Latest General Rules
1 Penalty: If a player (such as Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi) stops and starts
in his run-up to the ball - in an effort to try to make the goalkeeper move first, he
(or she) is to be given the yellow card. The opponents will also be awarded a free
kick. A short hesitation is allowed, but not a complete stop.
2. Triple jeopardy: Until now, hand-balls and fouls in the penalty area have often
resulted in a defender being given a red card, a penalty and a suspension. In
future, the referee will have the discretion to hand out a red card only when he
deems that there was intent. If he determines that the offender tried to play the ball
but still fouled, he is only to be handed a yellow card. Until now, if the referee
deemed that a cast-iron scoring chance was prevented by the offender, the rules
obliged him to show red, whatever a defender's intent.
3. Sending off: The referee will no longer only have the power to hand out red
cards during the actual match, but also before the opening kick off, if a player
conducts himself in an unsportsmanlike manner. In this case, the offender's team
would still be allowed to start the match with 11 players.
8. 4. Breaks for the treatment of injuries: In future, if the physio's magic
sponge can get the player back onto his feet within 20 seconds, the
player won't have to leave the pitch. Until now, any player who required
treatment has had to leave the pitch and could only return after getting
permission from the referee.
5. Kick off: Until now, the ball has had to be played forward. Now the
player performing the kick off also has the options of playing it
backwards or sideways.
6. Attacking wall: For a time there was a trend towards attacking teams
positioning players in amongst a defense's wall with the purpose of
screening the goalkeeper's view. This is no longer permitted.
7. Drink breaks: Since the 2014 World Cup in Brazil the referee has
had the option, particularly on a hot day or evening, to order a break so
that the players can have a drink. Now, though, he also has to include
the playing time lost in this way to time added on at the end of the
match.

15. Specific warming up
1. Walking Knee Hugs (hip mobility and glute stretch). Rise up onto your toes for
each hug to activate your calf muscles and work your balance.
2. Dynamic Lunge with Rotation (hip stretch/opener and T-spine mobility). The
hips, especially the hip flexors, are often tight in football players and sprinters. This
stretch helps increase mobility for better sprinting power and reduces the risk of
injury. It also helps you with T-spine (i.e., thoracic spine) mobility. If your T-spine is
restricted or "locked" and cannot rotate properly, your lower back will rotate
instead. Not a good thing, because it reduces sprint efficiency and increases the
risk of injury. Like pretty much all of these dynamic stretches, the Dynamic Lunge
also improves stability
16. 3. Backward Ninjas (glute activation and hamstring stretch). The true name
for these is "Inverted Hamstring Stretches," but one of my high school players
called them "Backward Ninjas," and it stuck. Try to keep your hips square.
Easier said than done. In the video, AJ is still working on it.
4. Hip Rotations (active leg and hip stability of the standing leg).
5. Lateral Lunges (gluteus medius activation). This "side butt" muscle is
commonly overlooked. Like with rotator cuff muscles of the shoulder, you are
only as strong as your weakest link. When this muscle is relatively weak, knee
injury is more likely. This move also stretches the groin and helps prevent
injuries there. Finally, it prepares you for all-important lateral movements.
6. Backward Skips (glute engagement). This is important because glute
activation increases sprinting power and reduces the risk of hamstring strains.
Swing the arms back, nice and loose, to increase mobility in the shoulders.
8. A-Runs (increase intensity within the range of motion for sprinting).
9. Backward Lunge Reach and Twist (stretches the quads, hip flexors and
psoas [a muscle in front of the hip that goes into the abdomen] and increases
mobility of the hip, shoulder and T-spine).
10. Punters (dynamic hamstring stretching and hip mobility).
11. Backpedal (works the athletic stance and engages the glutes). This is an
especially important warm-up drill for linebackers and defensive backs. 12.
Carioca. This is like the A-run, but is more specific for lateral movements
.
17. Common Injuries
ACL injuries - The anterior cruciate ligament in the knee can become damaged or torn
when a player is impacted from the front or rear.
MCL injuries - Injury to the medial collateral ligament in the knee is also very common
because it occurs when the knee is impacted from the side.
Torn meniscus - When a player rotates their body while a foot stays planted, the knee
can twist, causing the meniscus to tear.
Ankle sprains and strains - Perhaps the most common injury in all sports, ankles are
susceptible to soft tissue damage when pivoting, changing direction, or putting too
much pressure on the joint.
Muscle contusions - A strong impact to a large muscle, usually in the thigh, can
cause a contusion. This is basically a large, deep bruise that can impair muscle
function.
Torn hamstrings - Bursts of speed can cause the hamstrings to tear if the player is
not conditioned or properly warmed up.
Shoulder tendinitis - Frequent throwing can cause overuse injuries like shoulder
tendinitis from repetitive motions.
Shoulder separation or dislocation - A direct blow below the shoulder can cause a
separation of the acromioclavicular joint, while a dislocation occurs when the head of
the humerus detaches from the scapula.
