  4. 4. SYSTEM UNIT <ul><li>The system unit is the main component of the PC to which other components are connected. It contains: </li></ul><ul><li>Mother board </li></ul><ul><li>CPU (Central Processing Unit)‏ </li></ul><ul><li>Memory (RAM and ROM)‏ </li></ul><ul><li>Disk Drives </li></ul><ul><li>Power Supply Unit </li></ul>
  5. 5. INPUT DEVICE <ul><li>Input Devices:- It is a means by which the computer is fed with data for conversion into a suitable form for processing. Examples are keyboard, mouse, scanner etc. </li></ul>
  6. 6. OUTPUT DEVICE <ul><li>Output Devices:- Output device functions as the means to vie and use data and information produced by the computer system. Information is output in either of two forms – hardcopy and softcopy output is the printed output on paper softcopy output is the displayed document on the screen of the computer – the monitor </li></ul>

  8. 8. STORAGE DEVICES <ul><li>The function of the secondary storage is to provide means of storing programs (instructions) and data in a form that is relatively permanent. Unlike the primary memory storage, the secondary storage still retains its contents when power is switched off thereby making it non-volatile. Storage device can be magnetic disk (like floppy disk), optical disk (CD’s) or tapes rather than printed characters on paper. </li></ul>

VITAL COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM UNIT <ul><li>The vital components of the system unit includes: </li></ul><ul><li>Front side: power switch high indicator, floppy and CD Rom, drive, USB ports. </li></ul><ul><li>Backside: USB ports, power socket. </li></ul><ul><li>Inside: motherboard, power supply, hand drive. </li></ul>

FRONT SIDE <ul><li>Power switch light indicator: when you switch on your computer, the power switch light indicator is turn on to show that there is power in the computer. </li></ul><ul><li>Floppy Drive </li></ul><ul><li>You will need a floppy drive to use a diskette or floppy disk. </li></ul><ul><li>A floppy drive is a device that holds, spins, read data and writes data to the diskette. </li></ul><ul><li>When you want to use the floppy drive, a diskette is inserted into a slot, the drive gate or drive door, in the front of the drive. </li></ul><ul><li>After using the disk, retrieve it by pressing the eject button of the drive. </li></ul>

CD ROM DRIVE <ul><li>Like the diskette, without the CD Rom drive, you cannot use a CD Rom disk (compact disk – read-only memory)‏ </li></ul><ul><li>When you want to use a CD Rom drive, a CD Rom disk is inserted into a slot in front of the drive. </li></ul><ul><li>After using the CD Rom disk, retrieve it by pressing the eject button beside the drive. </li></ul>

E.g. TV card. </li></ul>
