  •  It was formed in the year 1948 under the article 312 of the constitution of India. The IPS officers provide senior level leadership to police force both in the states and at the centre. The controlling authority is in the ministry of home affairs which is responsible for all cadre controls. In the year 1893 to 1948 it was knowing as imperial police services. In the year 2011 the cadre size was 4730. the service color of the ips is red n blue and the uniform color of their people is khaki
