  6. 6. 1. If you haven’t already, create a LinkedIn profile, a Feedly account, a Twitter handle, a Google + account, and a TweetDeck account 2. Identify blogs, websites and news outlets that publish content related to your area(s) of expertise, and subscribe to them on Feedly 3. Identify companies, individuals and hashtags to follow on twitter, and start following them 4. Join related groups on LinkedIn and other social media sites 4 Easy Steps to Get Started
  7. 7. 1. Check your RSS and Twitter Feeds a few times 2. Read just the articles that interest you most 3. Retweet or reply to 1-2 people on LinkedIn 4. Share 3-5 interesting articles on Twitter and/or LinkedIn (use relevant hashtags) 5. Comment on at least one blog post or article 6. Comment on or start at least one LinkedIn (or other social media site) discussion 7. Share something from your company, such as a press release, a new blog post, a new white paper, a webinar signup/video, etc. Your Weekly Checklist

  9. 9.  Your username is used with an @ before it and is referred to as your handle | @TeamSpectate  Hashtags are used so people can talk about a common topic or event, even if they don’t know each other | #contentmarketing  RT is a retweet; it is when someone shares a tweet verbatim that someone else posted  MT is a modified tweet; it is when someone RT’s something but they modify it slightly  When you Reply to someone’s tweet or mention them, you use their handle, including the @ sign  I recommend TweetDeck’s desktop application for following your Twitter feed, RT’s, search terms and hashtags Twitter Basics
  10. 10.  Make sure your profile is as complete as possible with your name, company, title, etc.  Add blog posts that you’ve authored to your profile, so when people check you out, they’ll see your posts on your company and personal sites (this could directly drive traffic and increase leads)  Discussions are not easily searchable, so the best way to get involved is to sign up for relevant groups and then follow their discussions  Connect with people once you’ve established a relationship with them (this will grow your personal network as well as the audience of people who will see the content you share  If you have a company page or group, be sure to subscribe to that and participate in it, too LinkedIn Basics

  12. 12.  Yes, it is scary, but ultimately it will benefit you and your company by expanding both networks and driving more traffic to your sites  Keep it classy, and keep it you  Consider whether it makes sense to tweet about politics or religion! It is still your personal account, but make sure you are respectful and thoughtful in all your interactions  Do tweet about your personal interests; you are human, and you want your followers to know that  Don’t be scared to interact with people you don’t know; that’s kind of the point!
