DEFINITION OF WHISTLEBLOWING • Carrying out whistleblowing being a whistleblower • Revealing alleged dishonest/ illegal activities occurring in government departments/ organizations/ companies • Depending on types of whistleblowers to provoke retaliation • Being categorized into 2 types: internal & external
  4. 4. TWO TYPES OF WHISTLEBLOWER • Internal whistleblower: reporting misconduct on a fellow employees or superiors within company • External whistleblower: reporting misconduct on outside people or entities (E.g: lawyers, the media, law enforcement, state agencies, etc)

TWO TYPES OF WHISTLEBLOWERS Similarities • Being current or former employees of the organization where the wrongdoing was observed • Lacking the authority to change or stop the wrongdoing that is under their employers’ control • May or may not make the report • May or may not hold position that requires reporting of corporate wrongdoing

OBJECTIVES OF AN INTERNAL WHISTLEBLOWING PROGRAM • To encourage employees to bring unethical & illegal actions when they are aware of • To help organization solve their problem more quickly & minimize negative results that affect company’s reputation • To let employees know the organization is serious about adherence to codes of conduct
