  2. 2. ‘ @gwenturismo’ is coined by a creative director I worked with years ago. He was trying to describe how it feels to work with me. Essentially it means: - an attitude that inclined to calculated risks but always armed with a backup plan. - a constant momentum that revs up with every opportunity. - A relentless ball of energy Over time ‘@gwenturismo’ also became synonymous with living hard and fast.
  3. 3. It started with a brick
  4. 4. I liked that I could rearrange the bricks and create a brand new toy altogether.
  5. 5. Or a brand new world.
  6. 6. I was intrigued by the how pieces fits with each other and how the things I made looked different from other angles.

  8. 8. My art explored in between spaces and the relationships created. I sought beauty of ideas instead of ideas of beauty. Wedding Band, 2002 by gwen tan (private collection)
  9. 9. I love ‘wow’ moments. I seek to capture that equivalent in the things I make. I like it when people uncover a story through my creations. They own that moment of discovery and a story to tell. Tension Ring, 2002 by gwen tan (private collection) My work is not complete until people interact with it.
  10. 10. Exhibiting my artworks gave me opportunities to travel quite a bit. That’s when I started traveling avidly. For every country I went to, I wanted to understand their point of view. So I lived with the locals, lived like a local. I found that food and eating like them was the fastest way to get to know.
  11. 11. <ul><li>I ate more like the Chinese so that I can walk faster, work faster. </li></ul>
  12. 12. In Spain, I ate whatever I felt like, whenever I felt like, however much I felt like. It’s more important to be in touch with how I am feeling.
  13. 13. <ul><li>But I ate the most in America because eating makes me feel better about myself. </li></ul>
  14. 14. While each country has its own nuances (especially more so in behavior) At the end of the day, we are all motivated by the same things. Take the Millennials for example…

  16. 16. <ul><li>My generation is driven by a huge sense of self belief. </li></ul><ul><li>And its that self belief that had me write to you. </li></ul>
  17. 17. <ul><li>I am a great planner because: </li></ul><ul><li>I have a clear head and strong heart </li></ul><ul><li>My world is uncomplicated, just like a 3 year old </li></ul><ul><li>Deep interest in people </li></ul><ul><li>I listen hard to what others is saying before I speak </li></ul><ul><li>Ability to modulate </li></ul><ul><li>Well worn passport </li></ul><ul><li>Tell great stories </li></ul><ul><li>Strong serving of humility, humanity and doubt </li></ul>
