  2. 2. <ul><li>Eva Peron, is considered the First Lady of Argentina, and even today, some 60yrs since her death, she is loved and adored by millions. </li></ul><ul><li>Eva was born in 1919, in Los Toldos, a rural town in Argentina. She headed for Buenos Aires at the age of 15, where she pursued a career in entertainment. </li></ul><ul><li>She met Colonel Juan Peron in 1944, and the two were married in 1945. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1946 Juan Peron was elected President of Argentina. </li></ul><ul><li>Over the next 6yrs, Eva became powerful within the pro-Peronist unions for speaking on behalf of labor rights, and ran the Ministries of Labor and Health. </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Eva also founded and ran the Eva Peron Foundation, was a champion for women’s rights, and founded and ran the first large female political party, the Female Peronist Party. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1951, Eva ran for the office of Vice President of Argentina. She received great support, especially from the low income and working class. </li></ul><ul><li>Opposition from the nation’s military, and her failing health, forced her to withdraw from the race. In 1952, shortly before her death from cancer at the age of 33, Eva was given the official title of “Spiritual Leader of the Nation. </li></ul><ul><li>Eva will always be the sweetheart of Argentina, and her life was made into the Broadway musical and song “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”. </li></ul>
