The AOL Time Warner Merger <ul><li>The issue at hand is whether New York will remain the capital of the national industrial economy, and will dominate the new American global information economy. </li></ul><ul><li>The key to New York’s success was its leader’s ability to envision the future of the national economy. </li></ul><ul><li>Two examples of this was the Erie canal, which increased trade, and it’s “triangle trade,&quot; that allowed New York's commercial interests to control the cotton trade between the North and South. </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>New York position as no. 1, may be challenged by the West’s big internet and computer driven companies, located in the Southern California, the Bay Area and Redmond, Washington. </li></ul><ul><li>As the New World commerce becomes e-commerce, N.Y. will loose some of its strategic advantages. </li></ul><ul><li>The monopoly of the big three T.V. networks has been shattered by the L.A. based Fox Network’s internet programming, and Hollywood still leads the film industry, and both Yahoo and Amazon are based in the West. </li></ul><ul><li>On the other hand, AOL is what N.Y. needs to keep on top. With 22 million online subscribers. </li></ul><ul><li>Ether way, the no. 1 position is bound to increase commerce in that region. </li></ul>
