  4. 4. 5-1 Electronic Data Processing<br />There are different types of data processing system and each performs one or more required operations on data by means of various devices.<br />Automatic Data Processing (ADP) – when the machine performs most of the required operations.<br />Electronic Data Processing (EDP) - when the machine is an electronic digital computer or simply as a computer system<br />

  6. 6. 5-2 Hardware<br />It refers to the physical equipment or components of an electronic data processing<br />
  7. 7. 5-3 Software<br />Software commonly includes such programs as well as any operating aids that extend the capabilities of the computer.<br />Stored programs tell the computer what steps to take , what data to work on and what to do with the results.<br />
  8. 8. 5-4 Peopleware<br />It represents the personnel involved in system analysis, programming, computer operations, system maintenance, and the like.<br />Systems analysis and design are the jobs of the systems analyst.<br />Program development is the specialty of the programmer.<br />System development is carried out by computer operators , input data preparation staff and output preparation clerks.<br />

Advantages of Electronic Data Processing<br />Speed <br /><ul><li>Computers operate on data at such phenomenal speeds that they can produce results which would simply not feasible otherwise.</li></ul>2. Accuracy<br /><ul><li>The electronic circuitry of computers is such that, when the machines are programmed correctly and when incoming data is error free , the accuracy of the output is relatively assured.
