  3. 3. What is a note?<br />A symbol that represents a pitch and how long that pitch is held for<br />
  4. 4. Whole Note<br />Has the longest time value<br />In 4/4 time, a whole note will be sung or played for 4 beats<br />
  5. 5. Half Note<br />Receives half the value of a whole note<br />In 4/4 time, a half note will be sung for 2 beats<br />
  6. 6. Quarter Note<br />Receives half the value of a half note<br />In 4/4 time, a quarter note will receive 1 beat<br />
  7. 7. Eight Note<br />Receives half the value of a quarter note<br />In 4/4 time, an eight note will receive ½ beat<br />
  8. 8. How To Read Time Signature<br />
  9. 9. Your Mission<br />Look around the classroom for items you can make the different notes out of.<br />The item can be as big or small as you like<br />Listen to the examples at the computer to determine time signature. Each piece of music has a different time signature so listen close!<br />
