2. F R A N C E S K E E V I L G A L L E RY
To be opened by Louise Anemaat Head, Picture Section Mitchell Library, State Library of NSW
Tuesday 18th May, 6 – 8pm
Jane has painted over 20 works from the summit of the ANZAC Bridge whilst under construction.
She is fascinated and repelled by the scenes of urban change and destruction. Jane experiences great
frustration at painting to an unknown but inevitable time limit as buildings are demolished as fast as
she can paint them. Part of the attraction of such places is their poignant impermanence. She seeks to
paint the landscape forever poised at the moment of transition - at the first bite of the bulldozer - at the
point of maximum contrast between past and future.
One of her 'Closing the Gap' paintings from the Mitchell Library collection will be featured in the
forthcoming exhibition ONE hundred, to celebrate their centenary.
Jane's work is represented in Artbank; the Mitchell Library; many Regional Gallery & Council
Collections; Department of Defence; University of N.S.W.; University of Sydney.
