  3. 3. Why I Chose this topic <ul><li>I chose this topic because I knew AIDS had a strong impact on Africa and wanted to learn more about it. </li></ul>
  4. 4. What I Already Knew <ul><li>What I already knew about my topic was that it comes from HIV witch is a sexually transmitted disease. </li></ul><ul><li>I Also knew that AIDS effects many Africans and leaves many children with out parents. </li></ul>
  5. 5. What is AIDS ? <ul><li>AIDS is a medical condition that people </li></ul><ul><li>develop when HIV has damaged their </li></ul><ul><li>natural defenses against diseases. This disease is caused by HIV but everyone who has HIV doesn’t necessarily have AIDS. </li></ul>
  6. 6. People Effect <ul><li>In Sub Saharan-Africa the AIDS epidemic claimed the lives of about 2.3 million people in that region. </li></ul><ul><li>Everyday about 6575 got there lives taken from them. </li></ul><ul><li>More than 11 million children in Africa have been orphaned by AIDS in Africa. </li></ul>

  8. 8. Society Effect <ul><li>The impact of the AIDS epidemic is and will be strongly felt on Africa’s society for ten or more years. </li></ul><ul><li>The medical cost is now $30 per year for each person infected. </li></ul><ul><li>It used to be less than $10 per year. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Shocking/Important Facts <ul><li>What shocked me was the number of people that died from AIDS in Africa. </li></ul><ul><li>I think the way AIDS effects Africa's society is really important. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Questions I Still Have <ul><li>Are scientists trying to find a cure for AIDS ? </li></ul><ul><li>Do scientists think the number of deaths from AIDS will increase or decrease over the years? </li></ul>
