You already speak Mandarin, but you would like to improve your fluency and pronunciation during a six-month furlough. </li></ul><ul><li>You are a physician, researcher, or scientist who already speaks Mandarin, but you need to communicate better with your Chinese counterparts. </li></ul>Who Benefits NOTE: Motivation is critical – if you truly desire to improve your language skills but you are not driven by a work-related need to communicate, I recommend that you take a refresher course and seek out Chinese-speaking friends for practice. Alleviating (or even completely eliminating) more or less serious pronunciation problems, and improving your spoken expression, will allow you to have more effective contact with native speakers.

A significant part of this program will be our communication via phone and Internet. </li></ul><ul><li>We should learn from each other too. I will help you to improve. </li></ul><ul><li>We will speak on the phone, and I will send you a short quiz. This quiz will help me to determine your language skills (intermediate or advanced, etc.). It will help me determine your specific needs. </li></ul><ul><li>When we first communicate, I will ask “How are you with the four tones?” (Some linguists say that there are five tones.) </li></ul><ul><li>You may wonder why is it that I ask. You might think ‘I am good with the tones’ and you might think ‘I’ve never been good with the tones’. It is not as simple a question as it appears to be. My answer to you right now is “Because … I’ll tell you more when we speak.” </li></ul>My Tutoring Program
